East Berlin, 1984. Stasi Captain Gerd Weiser is assigned to surveillance duties, specifically to bug popular playwright Georg Dreyman and his actress partner Christa Maria Sieland. As he becomes more and more submerged in their lives, Weiser’s own attitudes to life, politics and the state begin to change, and it is not long before he finds himself in a dangerous situation.
In his debut feature, writer-director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck tells an intricate story of intrigue and suspense that has won many awards, including Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards and the BAFTA Film Awards.
