Une nuit
Talky and decidedly French romantic drama about a man and a woman who go on a long night walk through sweltering Paris after a chance encounter in a packed metro.
One night, in the crowded Parisian metro, Aymeric randomly bumps into Nathalie when they both enter the train. But as they argue while amused commuters look on, sparks fly between them. Soon after, they have sex in a photo booth at the railway station. Although they turn out be happily married, the two decide to spend the evening together. They wander the lively streets of Paris, meanwhile crying and dancing together and, above all, having long conversations about love, marriage and physical attraction. As the night progresses, they keep postponing the moment of saying goodbye, trying to enjoy themselves together for as long as possible.
Director/lead actor Alex Lutz calls this romantic drama an ode to love, but love is, he said in an interview, ‘work in progress’. UNE NUIT was selected for the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. (bw)
