Film adaptation of Guido van Driel’s graphic novel in which the lost 1974 World Cup final is linked to the murder of a girl.
It is 8 July 1974, the day after the lost football match between Germany and the Netherlands. The streets are quiet and the town is in mourning. Jonas runs into Daan and although they are not friends, they hang out together on this dull summer day. For different reasons, they are both looking for their classmate Karsten. Meanwhile, the missing of their classmate Catootje casts a dark shadow over the boys’ summer adventures.
In 1974, a girl disappeared from the class of then-12-year-old Guido van Driel. The Dutch national football team also suffered a traumatic defeat. Van Driel (DE WEDEROPSTANDING VAN A KLOOTZAK) combines those two events in a strikingly beautiful black-and-white film that he himself calls his most personal film to date.
