The Menu
Viciously funny thriller about a couple who travel to an island for a culinary experience. The menu is filled with ominous surprises. Starring Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy.
Dining at Hawthorne is not for everyone. Or rather: it’s not affordable for everyone. A menu costs more than a thousand dollars per person, and the restaurant is situated on an island, accessible only by boat. In his kitchen, Chef Slowik meticulously prepares ridiculously refined dishes for the lucky few. Dining at Hawthorne is not just dining, it is an experience.
Margot and Tyler, a couple that just started dating, get to experience Hawthorne first-hand. Together with a group of guests consisting of snobbish reviewers, faded movie stars, bored billionaires, and crypto bros, they set off to the illustrious restaurant. Tyler is overjoyed, but Margot is sceptical. After all, doesn’t the hostess know a little too much about her guests? And why does each course seem more sinister than the last? And… how does one get off the island without a boat?
With THE MENU, director Mark Mylod – known from the HBO hit series SUCCESSION – mocks the ultra-famous and the so-called experience economy. Together with Ralph Fiennes, who is perfect as a sadistic chef, and Anya Taylor-Joy (THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT), he serves up a delightful horror satire.
