Scrapper (10+)
The dreamy girl Georgie lives happily alone in her London flat, filling it with magic. Suddenly, her estranged father turns up and forces her to confront reality.
Twelve-year-old Georgie has been living on her own in a London suburb since the death of her mother. She is having a great time in her own world. She earns money by stealing bicycles with her boyfriend Ali and she keeps social workers off her by pretending to live with her uncle, Winston Churchill. Her independent life comes to an end when suddenly Jason – Harris Dickinson (TRIANGLE OF SADNESS) – turns up, introducing himself as her father. His arrival shakes up her peaceful life.
The lively and imaginative SCRAPPER is written and directed by British music video director Charlotte Regan. She grew up in a North London council estate herself and in recent years has been annoyed by the colourless way the working class is represented in British films. She herself looks back fondly on her childhood, and that sentiment is the cornerstone of this upbeat film. And with success: SCRAPPER won many awards at festivals, including the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema competition at Sundance Film Festival 2023.
