A few days before Christmas, having quit his job after a racist provocation by his employer in a German slaughterhouse, Matthias hitchhikes home to the foothills of multi-ethnic Transylvania. He is coldly welcomed by his young son Rudi, his estranged wife Ana, his ex-love Csilla, and his father figure Papa Otto, whose ailments require him to undergo an MRI (the translation of which lends its name to the film’s title). When a few new workers from Sri Lanka are hired at the small factory that Csilla manages, the peace of the community is disturbed, underlying fears grip the adults, and frustrations, conflicts and passions erupt through the thin veneer of apparent understanding and calm.
