Pink Floyd at Pompeii - MCMLXXII
Iconic 1972 film – in a remastered 4K version with enhanced audio – showing Pink Floyd’s intimate concert without an audience in the impressive ruins of the ancient Roman amphitheater in Pompeii.
By now, Pink Floyd’s concert in Pompeii is almost as mythical as the location itself. The film was shot in October 1971 and features timeless classics such as Echoes, A Saucerful Of Secrets and One Of These Days. The breathtaking footage of the amphitheatre, shot during the day but also at night, enhances the magic of the performance and makes for a unique experience. In addition, the film includes rare footage that gives a behind-the-scenes look of the band working on The Dark Side Of The Moon at Abbey Road Studios.
The original recordings of Pink Floyd At Pompeii had been missing for quite some time, but were found last year in the band’s own archive. British guitarist and producer Steven Wilson – himself a big name in the progressive rock genre – has taken care of a brand-new remix of the original audio recordings, and the film footage has been re-scanned in 4K from the 35mm negative. And so, more than fifty years after its release, fans get a unique chance to experience the concert on the big screen again.
