Chris (35) and Lluis (34) follow the West Highland Way and the Cape Wrath Trail, spending thirty days together in the wilderness. Their journey takes them from Glasgow to the northernmost point of Scotland: Cape Wrath. Along the way, they hope to rekindle the deep friendship they once shared.

What unfolds is a cathartic journey that forces them to confront the truth about their lives and their friendship.

The North is the second film by Bart Schrijver, who previously documented a hiking trip through Norway and Finland in his debut Human Nature (2022). He is currently working on Solitude, a film set in Iceland. In a four-star review, The Guardian praised The North for the director’s understanding of the rhythms and mental accommodations of long-distance walking. According to the newspaper, the film has a kind of purifying and uplifting effect that builds up as the hikers approach their destination. (mv)
