One Battle After Another
Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia) adds another masterpiece to his oeuvre with this humorous action thriller about a group of ex-revolutionaries who must return to action after sixteen years to rescue the daughter of one of their own.
One Battle After Another is loosely based on the novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon, whose book Inherent Vice was also adapted for the screen by Anderson. Pynchon explores the social legacy of the 1960s and takes a critical look at how the political ideals of the hippie generation became corrupted. Anderson delivers a very loose adaptation of the novel, with great roles for Leonardo DiCaprio as a not-too-bright revolutionary/bomb maker and Sean Penn as a white supremacist.
Anderson's reckless, unpredictable film cannot be pinned down to a single genre and swings between farcical satire and action thriller, including a three-car chase sequence that will make the so-called Texas Dip one of America’s most famous roads. The film has received five-star reviews worldwide and is considered one of the top favourites for the 2026 Oscars. (mv)
