The System - English subtitled
A documentary about three passionate idealists who refuse to accept the status quo and each try to make a difference in their own way.
Whilst the impact of the climate crisis, economic inequality and political instability are felt worldwide, The System follows three idealists: water expert and diplomat Henk Ovink, Berlin-based climate activist and writer Tadzio Müller, and Pippi van Ommen, co-founder of Extinction Rebellion Netherlands. They are convinced – as is filmmaker Joris Postema – that climate change is man-made and that radical social changes are needed to keep the world liveable. But what if their actions, conferences, and demonstrations come to nothing, and the situation in the world only gets worse? What options are left?
Postema does not offer simple answers in The System, but shows that change is possible. To change the system, we need each other. The documentary is driven by a mesmerising score by Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth).
