Mascarade
Comedic crime caper by Nicolas Bedos (La Belle Époque), set against the backdrop of the French Riviera; a sunny place for dark people.
After his career as a ballet dancer is ended by a motorbike accident, Adrien has settled down on the Côte d’Azur as the live-in lover of the elderly actress Martha. His life takes a new turn when he meets Margot, a young con artist who scours the French Riviera in search of rich men she can extort with compromising pictures. Together, Adrien and Margot hatch a plan to extort some money from wealthy real estate agent Simon.
MASCARADE is a con film by the book. Director Bedos knows his classics and uses elements from films like CHARADE, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS and SUNSET BOULEVARD, adding some sun-drenched images of southern France and a little sex. And as befits this genre, there is always the question of who is actually the con man, and who is the victim.
