L'Innocent
Romantic crime comedy directed by and starring Louis Garrel as a sombre widower who gets involved in a robbery of a truck full of Iranian caviar against his will.
It drives Abel to madness: time after time, his mother Sylvie falls head over heels in love with criminals. The passion with which his mother throws herself into love affairs has become unthinkable for Abel himself. His wife died several years ago and he has never fully recovered from that tragedy.
Sylvie’s latest flame is called Michel. To protect his mother from Michel’s bad influence, Abel decides to start shadowing him. In doing so, he gets help from his best friend Clémence. A few plot twists further on, Michel gets involved in a robbery himself.
L'INNOCENT is not confined to one film genre. The tone shifts from farcical to romantic and melancholic; it flirts with the conventions of heist movies, film noir, thriller and romantic comedy, and every time you think you know what is coming, Garrel pulls another surprise out of the hat.
