Les Cinq Diables
Mysterious drama by Léa Mysius (Ava) about a headstrong girl who discovers a secret about her family and her own existence thanks to her extraordinary sense of smell.
Vicky, a strange and solitary little girl, has a magical gift: she can both recognise and reproduce any scent she likes, and collects them in a series of carefully labelled jars. She has secretly captured the scent of Joanne, her mother, for whom she nurtures a wild, excessive love. When her father’s sister Julia bursts into their life, Vicky discovers a special bottle that allows her to travel through time into other people’s memories. This is how she uncovers the secrets of her village, her family and her own existence.
In her youth, Léa Mysius was fascinated by smell and this is the inspiration for her second feature film. In it, she goes a step further by establishing a link between smell and memory. The result is a psychoanalytic film that interweaves drama and fantasy with contemporary themes such as racism and homophobia.
