Klanken van Oorsprong

Time & Tickets

Between 1945 and 1962, more than 350.000 Indonesians were forced to return to the Netherlands. Once there, Indonesian-Dutch bands like ‘The Tielmans Brothers’ became loved by the enthusiastic Dutch youth who wanted to listen to Rock' n Roll. Indonesian-Dutch singers like Sandra Reemer, Liesbeth List and Boudewijn de Groot were successful as well. Anneke Grönloh and The Blue Diamonds even gained international fame, as did the brothers Eddie and Alex van Halen who emigrated to America.
Director Retel Helmrich shows how these Dutch-Indonesian musicians were able to adapt and how, without even knowing it, they brought about a change in Dutch music and far beyond. KLANKEN VAN OORSPRONG brings an intimate portrait of a number of great Dutch artists and the search for their own identity.
