After a long day at work, Khadija falls asleep on the last subway train. When she wakes up at the end of the line, she has no choice but to make her way home on foot. On her journey, she finds herself compelled to ask for and give help to the other inhabitants of the night.
In Bas Devos’ GHOST TROPIC, the viewer is given a radically different view of Brussels from the haunted city he captured in HELLHOLE only a few months earlier. After shooting HELLHOLE, a film about the blanket of fear encapsulating Brussels after the attacks of March 22, the director feared he had given the wrong impression of his home base and took to the streets again for this road movie, bringing a ray of sunshine to the city. The camera is kinder to Brussels here and manages to find the beauty in every nook and cranny, even in the mundane.

Bas Devos, Netherlands, Belgium, 2019, 85 min. French & Dutch spoken, Dutch subtitles. With Saadia Bentaïeb, Maaike Neuville, Stefan Gota, Nora Dari, Willy Thomas.
