Cédric Klapisch (Retour en Bourgogne, Paris) dives into the modern dance world with this story about a 26-year-old ballet dancer whose career is jeopardized by an injury.
Promising 26-year-old ballet dancer Élise suffers an injury during a performance and is told that she will probably never be able to dance again. She has lost her purpose and needs to turn her life around. With the help of friends, she finds other work. That takes her to Brittany where she meets a company for modern dance. The new experiences and friendships rekindle the fire in her. Will she be able to dance again?
Lead actress Marion Barbeau is a prima ballerina with the famous ballet of the Paris Opera; the role of choreographer Hofesh Shechter is also played by Shechter himself, who – together with half of the former duo Daft Punk – also signed on for the soundtrack.
Above all, Klapisch wants to show that the world of ballet is more than just suffering and rivalry, as THE BLACK SWAN suggested in 2011. And what better way to show this than with an opening scene with fifteen minutes of dance, without words?
