Callas – Paris, 1958
Recording of a legendary performance by Maria Callas on 19 December 1958 at the Paris Opéra. The event was attended by French President Coty, Charles Chaplin and Brigitte Bardot, among others. A night to remember.
In December 1958, Maria Callas made her debut at the Opéra de Paris in a concert that, from the moment it was announced, everyone knew would be legendary. This performance, which was filmed and broadcast live throughout Europe, would become one of the events of the century. One hundred years after the birth of Maria Callas, this film takes the audience into the heart of that event, presenting the images restored in 4K and colourised by Composite Films, which worked with the original reels from the Callas Foundation. The sound was restored borrowing directly from Maria Callas’ personal archives. CALLAS – PARIS, 1958 is not just a film, but a sensory journey through time and music. The hypnotic talent of ‘La Divina’ appears in all its splendour, in both video and audio, as she performs of a selection of arias from famous operas such as NORMA, IL TROVATORE and THE BARBER OF SEVILLE. The film also presents the entire second act of TOSCA in stage form. The result is a film that pays tribute to a musical legend, inviting new generations to experience the magic of a historic concert, splendidly restored.
