Ama Gloria
Moving coming-of-age film about the special relationship between six-year-old Cléo and her Cape Verdean nanny Gloria and the summer that will change both their lives forever.
Six-year-old Cléo loves her nanny Gloria more than anything. When she learns that Gloria has to travel back to Cape Verde to care for her own children, Gloria is heartbroken. Because parting is extremely difficult for both, Gloria decides to invite Cléo to visit her during the summer holiday. The two must make the most of their last summer together.
ÀMA GLORIA juxtaposes two worlds: The Western one, where parents have enough money but too little time for their children. And that of Cape Verde, where parents have plenty of time, but too little money to offer their children a perspective.
Inspired by her own relationship with her former ‘nounou’, Marie Amachoukeli-Barsacq made a film with the aim of lifting the taboo about the love between child and nanny. Impressive acting from Louise Mauroy-Panzani who masterfully portrays little Cléo’s emotional rollercoaster.
