A RAINY DAY IN NEW YORK finished shooting in 2017, but was shelved by Amazon Studios after renewed media focus on a sexual assault allegation made by Woody Allen’s then seven-year-old adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, in 1992. Allen has always denied the claim. Authorities looked into the details but no evidence was found and the case was not pursued.
In the meanwhile, the distribution rights of the film have been returned to Woody Allen, who can now try to sell the film to distributors. Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez regret working on the film and have donated their salary to Time’s Up, a fund that reimburses the legal expenses of victims of sexual abuse. However, Jude Law called it ‘a terrible shame’ that Allen’s film is not being released. ‘I’d love to see it’, he said. At least in the Netherlands and some other European countries, audiences will now get the opportunity to watch Allen’s new film.
