Director Theu Boermans will open this year’s Netherlands Film Festival with ZEE VAN TIJD, a film about a sailing trip with a tragic ending. In the 1980s, the young couple Lucas and Johanna sail around the world with their son Kai: head over heels in love, carefree and full of dreams and ideals. In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the young parents’ worst nightmare comes true. In the aftermath of the trip, Lucas and Johanna drift further and further apart.

Theu Boermans is one of the most celebrated directors in the Netherlands. Earlier in his career, he won a Golden Calf for Best Film with 1000 ROSEN (1994). For the TV series DE PARTIZANEN (1995), he won another Golden Calf, this time for Best Television Drama. He is also known as director of the successful musical SOLDAAT VAN ORANJE. The screenplay of ZEE VAN TIJD was written by Marieke van der Pol (DE TWEELING, BANKIER VAN HET VERZET).
