Twelve-year-old Nina lives with her dad, an animation director, and her little brother. Although she lost her mum at a young age, she wants nothing to do with people’s pity – she’s fine on her own, or so she thinks. Nina dreams of becoming a writer and turns to her neighbour Lidia, a real author, for help. Lidia agrees – on the condition that Nina helps out in the garden.

As Nina begins to write, her stories start to come alive, and she soon realises that her own life is becoming a book, with the people around her as characters. Through her writing journey, Nina starts to see her family in a new light, and memories of her mother slowly resurface. By allowing herself to grieve, she opens her heart to the people around her.
