L'Attachement
An intimate drama about the unique bond that develops between Sandra (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi), a woman in her fifties and the solitary owner of a feminist bookshop, and the family of her younger neighbour, recently widowed.
Sandra offers to help Alex help him and his children after this great loss. What starts as temporary support grows into a deep emotional bond, especially with Elliot, Alex’s six-year-old son, who unexpectedly begins to see Sandra as a mother figure.
Through their aspirations, fears, and choices, Carine Tardieu portrays the diverse ways in which people create and define a family. In the press notes, director Carine Tardieu explains that she wanted to tell the story of a woman asserting her emotional independence, whose foundations are shaken by an encounter.
