Wil
Belgian war drama by Tim Mielants (Patrick) about three young people trying to survive in occupied Antwerp. Based on the novel by Jeroen Olyslaegers.
1942. Wil and Lode are two young auxiliary agents in occupied Antwerp. They are forced to cooperate in the persecution of Jews in their city, but at the same time they also support the resistance. And amid all the chaos and violence, love blossoms: Wil has fallen in love with Lode’s sister Yvette. But how do you simultaneously save yourself, your loved ones and the Jews from the clutches of the occupying forces?
WIL is the second feature by Tim Mielants, who achieved international success with his debut feature film PATRICK. The film is based on the novel WIL, which won Jeroen Olyslaegers the Fintro Literature Prize. According to Olyslaegers, the novel and the film adaptation explore ‘whether you can be a good person in times of war if you do what you have to do to survive.’
