Tunisia, summer 2011. The holiday to the South of the country ends in disaster for Fares, Meriem and their 10-year old son Aziz, when the latter is accidentally shot in an ambush. His injury will change the family’s lives as Aziz needs a liver transplant, which leads to the discovery of a long-buried secret. Will Aziz and the relationship survive?
In his feature film debut, Mehdi Barsaoui shows himself as an interesting new voice in Arab cinema. UN FILS is a film about fatherhood, but also a film about a couple, their place in a patriarchal society, and also about empowerment – both feminine and masculine.

Mehdi Barsaoui, Tunisia, France, Lebanon, Qatar, 2019, 95 min. French & Arabic spoken, Dutch subtitles. With Sami Bouajila, Najla Ben Abdallah, Youssef Khemiri, Noomen Hamda, Slah Msadek.
