The Porter: The Untold Story at Everest
A young American joins a group of Nepalese porters, locals that carry the packs of wealthy Western climbers up Mount Everest.
At first sight, Nathaniel Menninger is just another tourist that wants to make the trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. But it soon turns out he fluently speaks Nepalese and his intentions are quite different. By spending his days with the porters, he reveals the dark side of the trekking business. Menninger takes his undertaking seriously and sleeps on the ground with his fellow porters. He eats with them in grubby kitchens. Also, he carries dozens of kilos on his forehead, using a head strap called the namlo. The result is shocking, to say the least.
