The Assistant

A searing look at the life of a powerful executive’s assistant, who grows increasingly aware of the insidious abuse that threatens every aspect of her position.

Time & Tickets

Jane – a recent college graduate and aspiring film producer – has landed her dream job as a junior assistant to a powerful entertainment mogul. Her boss is almost never around, but his presence looms above the office. Jane’s days are much like any other assistant’s: making coffee, changing paper in the copy machine, ordering lunch. But as Jane follows her daily routine, she grows increasingly aware of the abuse that insidiously colours every aspect of her work day, an accumulation of degradations against which Jane decides to take stand, only to discover the true depths of the system into which she has entered.
In her feature film debut, filmmaker Kitty Green addresses an issue that has come to light since #MeToo and the conviction of Harvey Weinstein: abuse of power – most often targeting women – in the entertainment industry.

Kitty Green, USA, 2019, 87 min. English spoken, Dutch subtitles. With Julia Garner, Owen Holland, Matthew Macfadyen.
