Sick of Myself
Tragicomic satire about a narcissistic young woman who cannot bear to see her friend break through as an artist and goes all out to get attention herself.
Millennials Signe and Thomas are in an unhealthy, competitive relationship that takes a vicious turn when the self-complacent Thomas suddenly breaks through as a contemporary artist. In response, Signe is green with envy and pulls out all the stops to be seen too. It all starts relatively innocently. At a dinner party, Signe tries to elicit pity by feigning an allergic reaction to nuts. However, things soon go from bad to worse. After some searching online, she orders the Russian drug Lidexol: illegal pills with insidious side effects, including visible skin disease. By damaging herself, she plans to reclaim the attention.
SICK OF MYSELF is a black anti-romantic comedy about a lonely young woman with a megalomaniacal desire for attention. With sardonic pleasure, director Kristoffer Borgli charges into a hyper-individualistic society where everything revolves around the number of likes. The lead roles are played by Kristine Kujath Thorp – known for her breakthrough role in NINJABABY – and Eirik Sæther, who is also a visual artist in real life.
