Narcosis
Feature debut by Martijn de Jong about a close-knit family that is disrupted when the father fails to resurface during a professional dive. With Thekla Reuten and Fedja van Huêt.
No funeral, no farewell, just a house full of memories. Burdened by the elusive loss, Merel evades her husband’s death and everything related to it. Her young children become entangled in their search for answers. Merel has no choice but to face the loss in her own unique way. She uses her clairsentience to contact her dead husband.
Director Martijn de Jong likes to approach sensitive topics but without falling into excessive sentiment. In NARCOSIS, he portrays a family miles apart at a time when they need each other more than ever before. The loving, melancholic film shows that grieving is partly an internal process that goes through stages which may be different for everyone, both in experience and time.
