Marcel the Shell with Shoes On -– Open air screening
Heart-warming comedy with stop-motion elements about Marcel, a cheerful little shell with shoes, who suddenly becomes catapulted into internet stardom.
Try not to fall in love with little Marcel, a three-centimetre-long shell with red shoes on his feet. Together with his grandma Connie, he lives in a house in Los Angeles, abandoned by a quarrelling couple who now rent it out as an Airbnb. As a tiny shell, Marcel faces a whole array of challenges, but Marcel – the ultimate optimist – always comes up with a solution. With honey on his shoes, he climbs walls, and with a hollowed-out tennis ball, he navigates through the house. However, Marcel also carries a great sorrow with him; the mysterious disappearance of his close shell family. The new tenant of the Airbnb, a newly divorced filmmaker, immediately feels connected to his shell friends and makes them the subject of his new online film. Suddenly, Marcel is famous, with thousands of fans, and his life changes forever.
Dean Fleischer Camp and Jenny Slate based MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON on their popular YouTube videos and books of the same name, which they created while they were in a relationship. When they made this feature film, they were separated. Together, they skilfully deliver a tear-jerking big-screen debut of the beloved character in this hilarious and heart-warming story about finding connection in the smallest corners. The film was nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Film in the most recent awards season.
