LAATSTE RONDE can be seen as a sequel – and a conclusion to the 2015 film VENTOUX. In VENTOUX, we saw the four friends Bart, André, Joost and David struggle with an incident that happened in their childhood. In the film, climbing the Mont Ventoux by bike is a form of catharsis and the resolution of a childhood trauma.
In LAATSTE RONDE, they’re all deep into their fifties. Together they go and help friend Joost with a renovation of a farmhouse in Belgium. They can still easily alternate between serious conversations and kidding around, but there’s no way of escaping the fact that they are getting older.
