Lumière x AIMS: Colombia In My Arms + introduction - English subtitled

Powerful documentary about Colombia after the peace agreement between the government and the FARC. Will the fragile peace deal survive the rancour built up by decades of war?

Time & Tickets

When in 2016 the Colombian government reaches a peace agreement with the biggest left-wing guerrilla group FARC, the promise of ‘a new Colombia’ is on the horizon. But it soon turns out to be very hard to rise above decades of war and pain.

With a poetic cinematography, COLOMBIA IN MY ARMS tells the story from different perspectives. The guerrilla fighters in the woods, preparing to hand in their weapons and trying to accept that their fight will be a political one from now on. The ‘old money’ elites, who shudder at the thought of FARC gaining power. The political establishment, cynically exploiting tensions in society for their own political gain. And the workers on the coca fields, summing it all up by saying: ‘The chaos starts at the top, not at the bottom.’

The film will be introduced by UCM researcher and lecturer Susana Carmona Castillo. She's an anthropologist researching in the fields of development anthropology and political ecology, with a particular interest in mining and the extractive industries in Latin America and the Global South. In her introduction she will shortly contextualize the Colombian conflict. The introduction will be in English.
