Armand
Chamber drama starring Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person In The World) as a mother who has to answer at school for a sexual incident involving her six-year-old son. Winner of the Caméra d'Or (prize for best debut) at Cannes.
During one fatal afternoon in an empty elementary school the two mothers of Armand (6) and Jon (6) get into a desperate fight when one son is accused of crossing boundaries against the other. All means are used, and soon a blend of madness and obsession arises. Where the truth lies is impossible to know, and soon everything evolves less and less around the children, who we never even meet, and more about the adults.
ARMAND is the film debut of Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel, the grandson of cinema legends Liv Ullmann and Ingmar Bergman. Tøndel said in interviews that he ‘tried everything else’ before ultimately deciding to become a filmmaker himself. That his debut promptly won an award at Cannes, is fully justified. Tøndel knows exactly how to portray people's inability to resolve conflicts.
