Trip-Tych
This debut film by music video director Kevin Boitelle is a quirky and pleasantly absurdist satire of the Dutch media and film landscape.
In three separate stories, TRIP-TYCH shows various creators struggling with the creative process. One is a theatre group that tries to come up with a surrealistic version a famous Dutch novel. Another story talks about a fictional actress who tries to pitch her film script to people with a certain status in the Dutch film industry. To make art, the director seems to want to convey, is to jump through bureaucratic hoops.
Despite Boitelle’s palpable frustration, TRIP-TYCH has not become a work of frustration. The diverse star cast – think of Dutch pop stars like Sef, Faberyayo and Abel and actors like Hannah Hoekstra and Huub Smit – delivers the one-liners of Boitelle, who picked up the screenplay in addition to directing, with visible pleasure.
