THE PERSONAL HISTORY OF DAVID COPPERFIELD is both tragic and hilarious and is colorfully told by director Armando Iannucci (THE DEATH OF STALIN). His film is a fresh, modern interpretation of the 1850 book that contains numerous biographical elements from Dickens’s life.

Set in the nineteenth century, the film tells the life story of young David Copperfield. After being kicked out of the house by his stepfather, David goes from one adventure to the next, meeting some of Victorian England’s most eccentric characters. His journey takes him from rags to riches and back, but the studious Copperfield braves both fortunes and adversity with his head held high.

The leading roles are played by a star cast, including Dev Patel (LION, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE), Tilda Swinton (WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN), Hugh Laurie (HOUSE) and Ben Whishaw (MARY POPPINS RETURNS). The film won multiple awards at the 2019 British Independent Film Awards.

Armando Iannucci, UK, USA, 2019, 116 min. English spoken, Dutch subtitles. With Dev Patel, Hugh Laurie, Tilda Swinton.
