The Miseducation of Cameron Post
When Cameron Post is caught kissing a girl at a school dance, her foster parents send her to an institution to eradicate her homosexual feelings.
The camp houses all sorts of boys and girls whose parents have decided they aren’t normal. Psychotherapy, discipline and various other dubious methods are used to make the children understand why they are attracted to the same gender and how they should get rid of that attraction. They should be able to manage with God’s help, lots of prayer, and by suppressing desires and emotions... At least, according to camp management. For the teenagers, all of it is mostly confusing: some try to follow the rules no matter what it costs, while others reject the bizarre ideology. For Cameron, the institution turns out to be an excellent place to meet other ‘outcasts’. A beautiful coming-of-age film set in the 90's about friendship, identity and the right to be yourself.
The discussion will be led by Puck, coordinator of Dionyx, the student queer organisation of Maastricht and Limburg (language: English).
