The Invisible Ones (6+)
A playful and funny documentary in which filmmaker Martijn sets out in search of a superhero for children who – out of necessity – have developed the ability to move through life unseen.
Superheroes don't just exist for no reason. Superheroes exist because we need them. They give us hope, strength and courage. And they show us the way to what is right and what is wrong. They reflect our desires: Superman reflects our desire to fly; Wonder Woman is faster than anyone else. And when you feel small and vulnerable, there is the Hulk, embodying our desire to be big and strong. But what if you feel like you don’t belong? That you are unwanted? Or that you have to be invisible because otherwise your life is in danger? Which superhero will come to the rescue?
The Invisible Ones tells the stories of four children – some of whom are now 85 years old – who learned to master the art of going unnoticed. Filmmaker Martijn Blekendaal wants to create an invisible superhero for them. This prompts an exploration of the ways in which film, photography and television have attempted to portray the invisible. The Invisible Ones thus becomes a playful media experiment and a tribute to the superpowers in ordinary people.
