The Great Bean
Video registration of choreographer Ed Wubbes’ successful play The Great Bean, his homage to variety, Vaudeville and the magic of the circus stage.
THE GREAT BEAN is set in the 1920s, in the atmosphere of the ‘roaring twenties’. It is the time of the rise of jazz, Hollywood and variety on Broadway. At the same time, new dance styles like charleston and tap emerge. In Wubbes’ theatrical world, various dance styles emerge, as well as circus acrobats and magic acts. The nostalgic atmosphere is enhanced by the alternately swinging and emotional jazz soundtrack: from the infectious jazz of Django Reinhardt to the mystique of Edward Grieg’s Peer Gynt-suite. And of course, Billie Holliday is not to be missed.
