Japan, fifteenth century. After a battle with a monstrous boar, Ashitaka is struck by a mysterious curse and must search for a cure to save his life. That search takes him to Iron Town, a rapidly growing mining town. Lady Eboshi rules the town and thinks only of financial gain, even if it means destroying the forests. The forest creatures, including the mysterious Princess Mononoke, a girl raised by wolves, take up the fight against humanity.

Princess Mononoke – perhaps the best film in the Studio Ghibli catalogue – is now almost thirty years old, but its theme – the impact of humans on nature and the need to live in balance with nature – has only become more relevant. The 4K restoration of the film was carried out by Studio Ghibli itself. (mv)
