Pink Moon
Poignant tragicomedy about a father who wants to end to his life. His daughter makes an ultimate attempt to dissuade him from this plan.
During a family dinner, Jan – a beautiful and understated role by Johan Leysen – tells his two children that he wants to end his life after his next birthday. He gives no further explanation for this desire. Daughter Iris is unable to understand this news. She tries with all her might to get an answer to the only question that matters to her: why?
Director Floor van der Meulen made several renowned documentaries (9 DAYS: FROM MY WINDOW IN ALEPPO, THE LAST MALE ON EARTH). PINK MOON marks her fiction feature debut. It turns out to be a successful search for the many layers of empathy: is it possible to understand someone’s life choices when they go directly against your own wishes or interests? With a steady hand, van der Meulen leads the viewer along the many issues related to self-chosen death, with an unforgettable last chord.
