Are there also Oscars for short animation films? Of course! In this compilation programme we bundle the five short animation films shortlisted for an Oscar in 2025 – including one Dutch contender.

Beautiful Men

Three brothers travel to Istanbul to undergo a hair transplant. Upon arrival, they hear the clinic can only accommodate one of them. As the tension between them rises, the group dynamics reveal their different personalities, along with their insecurities – which only seem to grow with age.
In The Shadow Of The Cypress

A former captain, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, lives with his daughter in a house by the sea, where they live an isolated and harsh life. Despite the captain’s deep desire to be a devoted father, he finds himself unable to connect with his daughter in the way that he aspires to. One morning, their lives change forever when an unforeseen event occurs.
Magic Candies

The other kids at the park never ask Dong-Dong to play. But he’s fine just playing marbles on his own. One day he goes out in search of new marbles but ends up buying a bag of colourful, marble-shaped candies instead. The first time he pops one of them into his mouth, he’s astonished to hear his old sofa starting to talk to him! For the next few minutes, until the candy melts away, he has the most unexpected and amazing conversation of his life.
Wander To Wonder

Mary, Billybud and Fumbleton are the stars of the 80s TV show Wander To Wonder. After their creator dies, they have to fend for themselves in the studio. As their hunger grows, the show becomes increasingly grim.
Yuck!

Yuck! Couples kissing on the mouth are gross. And the worst is, you can’t miss them: when people are about to kiss, their lips become all pink and shiny. Little Léo laughs at them, just like all the kids at the summer camp. But he has a secret he won’t tell his friends: his own mouth has actually begun glistening. And, in reality, Léo desperately wants to give kissing a try.
