‘If you have patience, it’s the most beautiful job in the world’, says Frank Resseler about his work as a director of nature documentaries. Patience he most certainly has had. For fifteen years, Resseler shot professional footage of the Meuse. Now he has made a short documentary from all that material. Moeder Maas, Bron Van Leven makes you realise how extraordinary nature is in the Meuse Valley. The Meuse is somewhat of a unique river in Western Europe; a river that is high or low because of rain, creating new biotopes every time. Resseler shows how animals adapt to the erratic nature of the Meuse. After watching this documentary – with stunning shots of fluttering atalanta butterflies, the very rare wolf spider and common terns scavenging for food – you will look at the Meuse differently.

Frank Resseler, Belgium, 2024, 22 min. Dutch spoken, without subtitles.
