In this visually and conceptually impressive film, criminal Manni attempts to deliver smuggled loot for his boss but accidentally leaves the 100,000 Deutschmark payment in a subway car. With only twenty minutes to come up with the money, he calls his girlfriend, Lola, who runs through the streets of the city, trying to get the money before it’s too late. Director Tom Tykwer leaves a lot to chance in the film and shows several variations on the tricks Lola uses to get the money, trying to show that, according to him, everything that happens ultimately depends on a number of small coincidences. Kinetic, clever, and best on the big screen, LOLA RENNT takes off and doesn’t stop until the credits roll.
