L’ABBÉ PIERRE is a French drama about the extraordinary life of Henri Grouès, founder of the Emmaus movement. The priest, who became a national popular hero in France, saved the lives of many jews in the Second World War, and devoted his life entirely to the fight against poverty and homelessness. Born into a wealthy family, Grouès decided at age eighteen to donate his entire inheritance to the poor. After years in a convent and as a resistance fighter, he became an elected member of parliament. His anger at injustice made him rebellious, but also vulnerable. The role of Abbé Pierre is impressively played by Benjamin Lavernhe, which earned him a César nomination for Best Actor.
