The numbers at the start of this documentary do not lie: abuse of young girls in online chatting rooms is a huge problem in the Czech Republic. CAUGHT IN THE NET is an attempt to illuminate this issue by way of an experiment in which three young-looking actresses pretend to be naïve young girls in an online chatroom. As such, they chat and skype with adult men. Most men, however, want more: they share pictures of their private parts, send the girls links to porn sites or ask for nudes. Some even try to blackmail the actresses.
CAUGHT IN THE NET makes clear from the beginning that these men are predators and should be dealt with as such. A sexologist and a lawyer, who spots more than eight punishable crimes in one session, underline this. All in all CAUGHT IN THE NET is an urgent documentary about online temptations and dangers for young girls, perfectly capturing the world of chatrooms and the unequal relations inherent to those spaces.
