12 Angry Men + Introduction & discussion

The feature debut of Sidney Lumet (Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, Network) is a claustrophobic courtroom thriller, set almost entirely within one room. Winner of the Golden Bear in Berlin.

Time & Tickets

A Puerto Rican teenager is accused of killing his father. Appearances are against him: the murder weapon is his, the woman across the street points to him as the culprit, and on the night of the murder the boy had an argument with his father. When the prosecutor completes his indictment, the boy’s fate seems sealed. The twelve members of the civil jury also seem to have little doubt, but then juror number 8 starts to comment on the evidence. Bit by bit, he leads the other jurors to doubt their verdict.

Sidney Lumet’s debut film about the pitfalls of jury trials grew into a courtroom classic. Lumet shows how racism, prejudice and personal circumstances can influence jurors. His committed take on the US justice system earned Lumet three Oscar nominations at the time.

Prior to the screening of 12 ANGRY MEN there will be an introduction by film students of United World College Maastricht. After the screening the students will discuss the film.
