The Other Lamb

Life with Shepherd is all that Selah has ever known. Their self-sufficient community does not use modern technology and is hidden deep in the forest, far from modern society.

Time & Tickets
Shepherd is the much-loved mentor and teacher of a sect consisting of only women and girls known as the Flock. They all live in a building in the countryside. Although Selah is true to her faith, she has never lost her own opinion. She is given the honor of participating in an important ritual, which turns out differently when she experiences a terrible supernatural experience. While experiencing bloody visions, Selah begins to seriously question community life.

It is a bold move by Polish director Malgorzata Szumowska: to use the story of an extreme sect for allusions to religion and patriarchy. This is extra risky because it is her first English-language film. Equally impressive is how New York-based Dutch actor Michiel Huisman portrays Shepherd's unpredictable character. What changes when one of his women refuses to listen?

Malgorzata Szumowska, Ireland, 2020, 95 min. English spoken, Dutch subtitles. With Raffey Cassidy, Michiel Huisman, Denise Gough, Eve Connolly, Ailbhe Cowley.
