A young couple is on their way to their holiday destination in France. At a petrol station, the woman wants to buy a few things and disappears. For years, her desperate boyfriend keeps looking for her. This attracts the attention of the murderer of his vanished girlfriend. What follows is an unalloyed power game.
This psychological thriller was awarded the Golden Calf for best feature film. In 1992, Sluizer directed an American remake: THE VANISHING.
