Gods of Molenbeek - English subtiteld

Lyrical film about the friendship of three children in the Molenbeek quarter of Brussels, notorious for the 2016 terrorist attacks.

Time & Tickets

In international news media, Sint-Jans-Molenbeek often emerges as a hotbed of terrorism, but the 6-year-old friends Aatos and Amine experience the neighborhood in a completely different way. It’s their home, the place where they listen to whispering spiders and speak freely about religion while playing. Yes, their gods differ, but their dreams don’t: the flying carpet in the streets of Molenbeek will take them all the way to the other side of the neighborhood. That’s their shared belief. Until terrorist attacks in Brussels and Zaventem disrupt their harmonious world.

UM-researcher Laura Ogden, specialised in cultural anthropology and visual ethnography, is present to lead the discussion (language: English).
