De Brief Die Nooit Verzonden Werd (Letter Never Sent)
Russian classic by Mikhail Kalatozov (The Cranes Are Flying) about the expedition of four young geologists to the remote Siberian wilderness in search of diamonds.
Classic
Please note that this film is in Russian, with Dutch subtitles.
Mikhail Kalatozov made three films with cameraman Sergey Urusevsky: THE CRANES ARE FLYING (1957), LETTER NEVER SENT (1960) and SOY CUBA (1964). At first glance, THE LETTER THAT NEVER SENT appears to be an adventure film in the social realist tradition, but gradually the film takes a different turn. Soviet man proves no match for the unleashed Siberian nature when a huge forest fire forces the foursome to flee for their lives.
