Danish Collector DeLacroix To Gauguin
Documentary about Danish businessman Wilhelm Hansen, who collected a remarkable collection of Impressionist art in his summer home in the suburbs of Copenhagen.
For the longest time, there wasn’t much interest in Impressionist art. In their own time, artists such as Monet, Degas and Renoir weren’t able to sell their works. This changed in the 20th century with a group of collectors competing to buy any work by Impressionist artists they could find. One of them was Danish businessman Wilhelm Hansen. At his summer home in Ordrupgaard, on the outskirts of Copenhagen, he put together a remarkable collection. The Ordrupgaard Collection has since become a treasure trove of some of the finest Impressionist works ever painted: from Monet to Gonzalès.
DANISH COLLECTOR: DELACROIX TO GAUGUIN tells Hansen’s fascinating story and not only brings his extraordinary collection to the big screen (with exclusive access to a sold-out show at the Royal Academy in London), but also shows you around Hansen's magnificent home and gardens in Ordropgaard.
